With over fifty years of experience in seamer tooling production, TMI has extensive experience, and that experience benefits our customers.
Manufacturing Details
Using CNC manufacturing technology, skilled tool and die makers produce a finished product in a number of ways—from standard part numbers with industry-wide specifications, from customer blueprints, or from an actual part where a precise duplicate is made from an original. All seamer tooling is fully inspected before shipment to ensure every aspect of your order is correct. Custom manufacturing capabilities are available as an additional service, along with the option for design assistance.
Our Focus
Every part we manufacture is guaranteed to meet your precise specifications while manufacturing turn-around time is held to a minimum. Our entire manufacturing facility is geared to produce a superior quality product in a time frame that benefits our customers.
  • 24-Hour Turn-Around Available for Rush Requirements
  • 1-Day Service Available From Our Inventoried Parts Department

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Seaming Rolls and Chucks
Does TMI make seamer tooling for every model seamer on the market? Yes, seaming rolls and chucks can be ordered for any type of seamer made in the world today. Can you make seamer tooling for a seamer that's no longer in production? Absolutely. To guarantee a precise fit, just ship us a sample chuck and roll with any available drawings, and we will duplicate the parts to your exact specifications.
Extending the Life of Seamer Tooling
What kind of coatings would make my seaming parts last longer? The most optimal coating will depend on the type of can used, the type of product being canned, and the amount of maintenance performed on the seamer. Please call us to discuss your options: 1-408-980-8888
Titanium Nitride (TN)In general, if you are using steel cans and if your product has a high pH acidity level, such as hot sauce or chili peppers, and if maintenance checks are performed infrequently, then a coating such as titanium nitride (TN) would help extend the life of the seaming roll and chuck. A titanium nitride coating has a smoother finish than flame plating and can be used on both rolls and chucks.
Flame Plating (FP)A coating used only on seaming chucks, flame plating (FP) is a process that adds tungsten carbide to the chuck profile. A flame-plated surface has a somewhat rough finish and helps the seaming chuck grip the can end. There may be times where a seaming chuck has been correctly manufactured to a specified dimension, yet there is still difficulty with the chuck grabbing the can end satisfactorily. Flame plating can bridge the proverbial "gap" and contribute to a smoother production run.
Due to the inherent uneven characteristics of this coating, flame plating is not used on seaming rolls. Roll profiles must be smooth for accurate seaming.
Electroless Hard NickelThis coating is used as a less expensive alternative to titanium nitride, primarily as a barrier against corrosion. Not as commonly used as TN, an electroless hard nickel coating is sometimes still used in food canning production.
Carbon Nitride (CN)For can manufacturers only, carbon nitride (CN) is a process used on rolls and chucks made of D-2 tool steel. CN increases the hardness of seamer tooling, which in turn extends the life of the parts.
Specialty Parts
The adjustable pin works with specific seamers. Which ones? The adjustable pin is expressly designed to work with Angelus 60L and 61H seamers. It reduces set-up time by approximately 50%. Please call for more information: 01-408-980-8888 The eccentric adjustable cap pusher and cam roll pin eliminate end feed problems. How?The eccentric adjustable cap pusher and cam roll pin physically push the cam roll in the seamer, which in turn eliminates lid separation during production. This part adds adjustment options that are not traditionally available on Angelus P-type seamers.
What is the best application for ceramic bearing seaming rolls? Ceramic bearing seaming rolls were first introduced into the beverage industry because ceramic bearings have proven to hold up well with high-speed seamers. There are now a handful of food canners experimenting with using ceramic bearing seaming rolls on their slow-speed seaming machines. For more information about TMI ceramic bearing seaming rolls, please call 01-408-980-8888.
Can I use a single groove seaming roll with the pre-set double groove pin?No, the double groove P-pin is designed to work only with the TMI double groove seaming roll-on Angelus P-type seamers. Similar to the adjustable pin, it, too, reduces set-up time by 50%. The double groove seaming roll also has two profiles on one roll, so you get twice the mileage from one seaming roll. For more information about the double groove seaming roll assembly, please call 01-408-980-8888.
Manufacturing
Why are sample ends or parts sometimes necessary to manufacture an order? At certain times, a canner may be using two ends from two different manufacturers. Having the physical samples at our disposal enables our tool and die makers to produce seaming chucks that are guaranteed to fit. If you are ordering a non-standard chuck or roll, your specific part provides us with the precise dimensions we need to successfully duplicate your order.
Does TMI make other change parts for seamers? Yes, while we specialize in seamer tooling rolls and chucks, we also make lower wear plates, knock out rods, and knock out pins for a limited number of seamers. Please call if you have an interest in other related parts.
Ordering
What if I don't know the part number of the product I need to order? Most chucks and rolls have part numbers stamped right on the part. When in doubt, just check the part currently in use.
What credit cards do you accept, and what are your terms of payment? We accept Master Card, VISA, and American Express. All orders are 1%/10 net 30.
What is the preferred method of placing an order? Phone, fax, or email? We are happy to accept your order in any form. Many customers prefer to call us directly if there are any questions that need to be answered. Otherwise, if you send a fax, we will fax back a confirmation that we've received your order. If you send an email, similarly, we'll email back the confirmation that we've received your requisition. Email: pchronis@toolmakersintl.comCall: 01-408-980-8888 Fax: 01-408-980-9203
